I can’t quite believe that it’s New Year’s Eve and at midnight we’ll say goodbye to 2018 – how did that year fly by so fast?
I swear and live by a lot of mantras. One of my favourites is relevant to heralding in the New Year:
If you believe it, you can achieve it
I’m also a firm believer of setting goals that you can focus on and work towards.
2019 goals
Every year, as New Year’s Eve approaches I write a list of my intentions for the New Year.
I pick around 3-5 and they may vary from financial goals to running goals, from career goals to ticking off bucket list travel plans.
Some years these have felt like unreachable or unachievable dreams. Sometimes, my goals have even scared me – like running my first half-marathon.
But, I still write them down.
Over the years I’ve learned that the fear of the unknown is actually way scarier than actually doing what it is you’re afraid of – if you break it down.
If the big idea or dream goal is scary to you and overwhelms you, then break it down by asking yourself:
What are the small steps I can take towards getting achieving this goal?
For example, this year one of my 2019 goals is to start my new podcast.
I’ve been procrastinating so much on this, as I’ve been allowing a little fear of the unknown get in my way.
I have no idea how to create a podcast. So, although I’m so excited about this, the thought slightly terrifies me.
By writing it down I have set my intention.
All I need to do now is to break down the steps I need to take to achieve it:
1) do a ‘how to create a podcast’ online video course
2) list the gear I will need to get in order to do so and then buy it
3) work out the name of my podcast and what the theme of it will be and so on.
I don’t need to be overwhelmed anymore.
I just need to take one step at a time and that will get me towards ticking off this goal by next New Year’s Eve! Watch this space!
What are your New Year’s resolutions?
Close your eyes and imagine the person you wish to become and the goals you would like him or her to achieve.
See how confident and happy he or she is.
Look how they have no stress about money and their relationships are positive, effortless and full of love.
Visualise how fulfilling his or her job is and how wonderful his or her friends are. Imagine a life full of travel and adventure.
Whatever it is you want to manifest in your life. Believe it and then motivate yourself to start working towards achieving it.
Imagine confidently stepping out on stage delivering your first public speech, or crossing that finish line of your first 5km.
Imagine signing the contract on your dream home or job or walking away from that relationship which is hurting you and never looking back.
Imagine the newborn baby in your arms or the winning that award you have strived and worked hard for.
Only you will know who you want to be and what you want to achieve this coming year.
Be sure that whatever you are working towards, that goal is good enough for you, as you deserve the best.
What you think you become
Another way to do this is to create your Dream Board. Full of images of what dreams you wish could come true.
Go through magazines and search online. Find images that inspire you and reflect the person you want to be and the goals you wish to achieve.
If it’s winning an award, pin that award on your board. If it’s travelling somewhere exotic, pin that location on there too.
If it’s earning good money, then write a cheque for the amount you wish to receive, pin that there as well.
If it’s dressing well, getting fit, find images for those who resemble who you want to become.
There’s another saying I love:
Dress the part until you become it
I’m a firm believer in this too.
I’ve often had people say to me:
You’re so lucky
And in a way that annoys me. I’ve worked hard to achieve the luck in my life. I deserve it and you do too.
You can manifest your dreams and be the person you want to become.
If you want success, then dress as though you have already achieved it. Look the part if you want to become it. Then work out the steps you need to take to make that happen.
Expand your comfort zone and say yes to things that might offer up new opportunities, don’t let fear hold you back. You just have to break things down to eliminate the fear of them.
Visualise who you want to become, create a dream board with images of who that person looks like and what he or she will achieve.
Visualising this not only gives you something to aspire to, but a goal to work towards and you can work backwards from there.
If you have that goal firmly in mind, you can start to plot out the baby steps you need to take to get you there, as I did with running my first 5km fun run and half marathons.
Have fun with this task. Create a colourful and visual dream board and hang it on your wall as a daily reminder of who you want to be and the goals you want to achieve.
Do this for New Year’s Eve. Start 2019 with your goals and intentions at the forefront of your mind.
Believe it and you will achieve it.
Happy New Year everyone!
PS – if you don’t see my podcast soon, please hold me accountable to it!
